This is a long standing Conservative promise that hasn't happened yet. This should be a goverment bill, not a private members bill. If it doesn't happen, expect people like myself to not bother voting anymore.
Yup. Long on promise short on delivery - chasing urban votes.
I joined Reform in 1996 primarily to fight C-68 - gun registration.
I have worked at various levels in the party up to and including Vice-President of two different riding associations. I have worked in every federal campaign since then.
I asked Stockwell Day when this will end, he told me: "When we have a majority government."
I want this gone as much or more than anyone here. Political reallity says we must wait. :-(
Let's do everything we can to get this private members bill passed. The fact that the PM is asking for help in this is the best signal we have had since 1995 when this mess was dumped on us by the Liberal Party of Canada.
So, you are registered when you are born, your land is registered, your car is registered and yet rifle owners are too lazy to register?
What in hell is the big deal about registering? Hiding something?
So stupid. Useless argument.
The reason we don't want to register has NOTHING to do with laziness.
It has everything to do with the fact that it is not healthy for the state to have detailed information on what property its citizens may or may not own.
Last time I checked, there were no lobby groups advocating to take your car away from you.
And even if you could trust that some future urban vote chasing Liberal (or "coalition") government would not use it to confiscate your guns, the registry would still be a costly dumb idea.
